Mantle Network: A high-performance, modular, and scalable Ethereum Layer 2 solution established by BitDAO

On January 10, 2023, BitDAO, one of the world’s largest decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), announced the official launch of Mantle’s public testnet, “Wadsley,” the first modular Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) blockchain designed to achieve super-scalability.

The testnet was named after mineralogist Arthur David Wadsley, who also named the mineral wadsleyite found in the Earth’s mantle.

The launch of the testnet was highly anticipated and attracted significant attention from the EVM developer and supporter communities, with over 37,000 people signing up for the launch countdown. Mantle is committed to achieving high performance and low cost without sacrificing security to accelerate the adoption of Web3 technology.

Mantle is the first L2 solution to seamlessly integrate modular architecture with the security and decentralization features of the Ethereum blockchain. Mantle users can experience Web3 applications, and developers can deploy smart contracts in a low-cost and efficient environment. In addition, Mantle will be compatible with EVM, providing developers with a familiar tech stack that enables them to use the same toolchain as Ethereum for their projects.

Arjun Krishan Kalsy, head of the Mantle ecosystem, said:

“Mantle creates an excellent opportunity to build a large blockchain ecosystem and will lead millions of new users and developers on their Web3 journey.

Using $BIT as Mantle’s native token helps achieve the vision of a blockchain owned by the community and built by DAOs.”

Mantle solves the scalability challenge

Mantle has made significant upgrades to existing L2 solutions, including:

Modular Architecture: The Mantle network is designed with transaction execution, data availability, and transaction confirmation as independent layers. The team is currently working with data availability solution teams such as EigenLayer to further optimize network performance. Thanks to the low-cost advantage of the data availability layer (for example, replacing Ethereum’s own data availability layer with EigenLayer), Rollup can maintain Ethereum-level security while avoiding the high transaction fees faced by other L2 solutions.

Excellent Security and Data Availability: Mantle combines Rollup technology with decentralized data availability layers to achieve far greater transaction throughput than traditional L2 solutions. Reliable data availability also means that Mantle can increase throughput without compromising security, while reducing node operating costs. This reduces the processing requirements for verifiers, increasing decentralization.

Faster Transaction Confirmation Speed: Mantle enhances the security and reliability of transactions on L2 before block and state confirmations reach Ethereum, effectively shortening the challenge period, allowing users to enjoy faster transaction confirmation speeds.

Multi-Party Computation (MPC): Mantle introduces MPC technology, which minimizes the trust risk of L2 execution results. Using threshold signature mechanism (TSS), the system achieves multi-party signatures through dedicated nodes, thereby improving the correctness of off-chain transaction execution results and shortening the challenge period for withdrawals.

Decentralized Sequencer: Mantle implements a secure, reliable, and trustless block production process based on a decentralized sequencer. By rotating among a set of permissionless sequencers, Mantle significantly reduces the risk of network single-point failure or censorship. Mantle will gradually achieve sequencer decentralization, enabling secure and worry-free block production.

Fraud Proofs: By using EVM-level instructions to generate and verify fraud proofs, Mantle brings a series of advantages, such as supporting all Ethereum clients to interact without permission with a universal proof mechanism, and reducing trust assumptions across verifiers, clients, and compilers.

Support from the BitDAO Ecosystem

Existing ecosystems often operate as isolated islands, making it difficult for builders to receive the necessary project scaling support. In contrast, Mantle is owned and driven by BitDAO, and will receive full support from the entire BitDAO ecosystem. The BitDAO community has a long-standing commitment to Web3 innovation and construction, and the launch of Mantle confirms BitDAO’s ambitious plan to build a Web3 ecosystem that brings together users, products, services, and public goods.

The Mantle team can provide comprehensive ecosystem support for project teams looking to join Mantle, accelerating the entire process from conception to launch. Mantle will connect to BitDAO’s vast network of partners to drive value creation across the entire ecosystem.

The native token of BitDAO, $BIT, is the cornerstone of innovation on Mantle, enabling the community to participate in network construction and reap rewards from its growth and expansion.

Mantle aims to accelerate the adoption of Web3 and unlock new possibilities for Web3 applications worldwide.
